TikTok, the well-known platform for short videos, has released a new feature that lets users update their For You feed if they think the recommendations are no longer relevant.
In a statement, the company stated, "This new feature is part of TikTok's ongoing efforts to ensure an enjoyable viewing experience for its users while also enabling self-expression."
The For You feed is a component that assists TikTok clients with finding a variety of content, makers, networks, and items. But there are times when people's suggestions don't seem to be of much use anymore or don't offer enough variety.
TikTok is implementing a method for users to refresh their For You feed recommendations to address this issue. This method enables users to view content as if they had just signed up for TikTok. After that, new interactions will cause the recommendation system to display additional content.
TikTok users already have access to a number of content controls that can shape their experience. These controls include the ability to remove videos from their For You feeds that use particular hashtags or phrases, as well as the ability to skip future videos from a particular creator or that use a particular sound.
The refresh feature will not affect any settings that users have already selected to enable or accounts that they have followed.
"TikTok takes multiple approaches to assist in safeguarding its platform and is constantly working to provide an enjoyable viewing experience."
"For example, TikTok removes content that violates its rules, makes inappropriate content ineligible for recommendation into For You feeds, minimizes recommendations of topics that could have a negative impact if viewed repeatedly, and removes content from teen accounts that contains complex or mature themes."
The assertion referenced that an inborn test of any proposal framework is guaranteeing the expansiveness of content surfaced to a watcher isn't excessively tight or excessively redundant.
According to the statement, TikTok is fully committed to addressing this challenge and developing a system that incorporates a wide range of subjects.
TikTok tries to avoid showing people something they've already seen, and the system won't typically serve two videos with the same creator or sound in a row.
TikTok comprehends that individuals put themselves out there in a wide range of ways on the stage — including while they're feeling down or are carrying on with a troublesome educational encounter.
According to the statement, TikTok's strategy is to remove content that promotes or glorifies self-injury or other policies and to permit recovery and educational content, with restrictions on how frequently such content is eligible for a recommendation.
TikTok has added support for more languages and implemented more than 15 system updates in the past year. This work, which is informed by academic literature and consultation with experts like the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children's Hospital in the United States, is driven by trust and safety and product teams working together.
